Train the Trainer Part 5: Analytics - South Africa Society of Physiotherapists (SASP) PT CPD Guide

Embodia has an agreement with the South Africa Society of Physiotherapists (SASP) in which Embodia may submit courses for CPDs (continuing professional development) - the equivalent of CEUs (continuing educaiton units).

Once approved, physiotherapists in South Africa can earn CPDs for course completion and the courses that have been approved for CPDs are displayed on the SASP website.

Why CPDs matter for PTs

Licensed physical therapists in South Africa are required by their state licensing boards to complete continuing education (CE) as a condition for license renewal. These CE hours (often referred to as CEUs) ensure that PTs stay current with:

  • Clinical skills
  • Evidence-based practices
  • Ethics and legal updates
  • Advances in patient care

What is the cost of having your course approved for CPDs on Embodia?

There is no direct cost for SASP CPDs. Embodia will manage the application on your behalf. Embodia's agreement with SASP includes providing a minimum of 10% discount on CPD approved courses.

What is required to have my course(s) CEU approved?

The following are the requirements:

  • Offer a minimum of 10% discount to SASP members
  • A quiz or exam with a minimum of 10 questions and no more than20% of the questions being true/false or yes/no answers
  • Course under 2 hours do not require a reference list or a detailed programme outline
  • Courses over 2 hours long must include:
    • A list of references and at least 5 of the references must be no more than 5 years old
    • An outline programme (the information on the course page) and the instructor(s) CVs

How do I submit my course(s) for CPDs with SASP?

Please email us at support@embodiaapp.com to confirm your interest. If you have multiple courses on Embodia, please let us know which course(s) you would like to have approved for CPDs. We will send you next steps once we have reviewed your course.

Is there a renewal period? What's involved?

Yes, SASP requires renewal every calendar year. At the beginning of every January, Embodia will review it's list of SASP approved courses and update this list. If anything is required from an instructor, a member of the Embodia team will be in touch.

The start of the calendar year is also the best time to accredite new courses. Prior to sending SASP our updated course list and requirements, we will be in touch with all instructors to ask if there are any new course submissions.
