Resource Package: Female and Male Pelvic Pain (Level 2)

This is the online component of the Pelvic Health Solutions Level 2 course. You can access this content if you have taken the live course. In this course you will have access to video exercises, written education and protocols which you can share with patients.

Course Description
Many people experience pelvic pain and dysfunction that severely affect their quality of life. Topics covered on this course include the evaluation and treatments for the following pelvic pain conditions: dyspareunia, vulvodynia, vaginismus, vestibulodynia, painful bladder syndrome, chronic non-bacterial prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Physiotherapists will learn how the recognize the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms that lead to these impairments, the functional limitations and disabilities they cause, outcome measures that can be used in the clinic and treatment interventions. This course is designed to teach physiotherapists how to evaluate the female and male pelvic floor by learning specific examination and treatments for these conditions. This is a lecture-format and lab-based course.

    Carolyn Vandyken, BHSc (PT)

Carolyn is a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist who graduated from McMaster University in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy. She has spoken at over 50 conferences and grand round presentations throughout Canada and the United States. Carolyn co-authored the first book on patient-centred pain biology education for pelvic pain, Why Pelvic Pain Hurts, and also co-authored three peer-reviewed framework articles with Sandra Hilton on the assessment and treatment of persistent pelvic pain.

She co-owns a Canadian-based teaching company, Pelvic Health Solutions, and teaches internationally on the physiotherapy for pelvic floor problems. She also manages her own practice in Huntsville, Ontario.

   Nelly Faghani B.Sc. P.T., M.C.P.A.

She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1996. Nelly started to treat pelvic health in 1998 and continues to be actively involved in clinical practice, mentoring and teaching. She has helped develop Continence Programs that have been implemented in various long-term care facilities through Ontario. Nelly has been a spokesperson for the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, has co-authored a neuro-urology textbook chapter on incontinence and has hosted a round table at the International Pelvic Pain Society Conference.

Nelly is a member of the ICS Children and Young Adult’s Committee and the ICS Physiotherapy Committee. She regularly attends international conferences and prides herself on staying on top of the current pelvic health literature.
