Course Overview:

This online course, “Long COVID & Physiotherapy – Supporting Patient Care & Well-Being,” is an opportunity to discuss and share the experiences of caring and supporting those with Long COVID.

The course will give physiotherapists and those with the lived experience of Long COVID a chance to share perspectives on this emerging and new episodic condition.

Practicing physiotherapists and those experiencing Long COVID will share their observations, discuss contemporary advocacy and care needs, and look at the opportunity of physiotherapy to support their long-term well-being.  

Course Structure:

This course starts with an introduction from Amanda de Chastelain, CPA President, followed by an introduction to and definition of long COVID presented by Simon Décary. This is followed by a panel discussion by those with long COVID (panelists names and titles are outlined below).

  • Simon Décary, Physiotherapist, PhD, Professor University of Sherbrooke, Implementation science in long COVID
  • Jessica DeMars, physiotherapist working with people who have Long COVID
  • Cara Kaup, a paediatric physical therapist and a person living with Long COVID in Canada
  • Alyssa Minor, physiotherapist and a person living with Long COVID in Canada
  • Kyra Perry, private practice physiotherapist and a person living with Long COVID in Canada

Course Objectives:

In this online course, the following will be presented:

  • The definition of Long COVID
  • Introduction of the panelists that will facilitate the discussion about Long COVID and physiotherapy
  • Insights on new research and what it means for the physiotherapy profession
  • Insights on the lived experience of Long COVID and advice on self-management techniques
  • Discussion on ways physiotherapists can provide better care for those experiencing Long COVID

This online course is available to physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants that would like to gain insights on how to best assess and treat those who have/are suspected to have Long COVID. It is brought to you by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA).
