Overview

This online course will focus on how the research that helps inform our treatment of human tendinopathies can help inform our treatment of superficial and deep digital flexor tendons in the equine community. 

This is an exploration of this new area of practice for the conservative management of horses.  A newly proposed treatment protocol will be introduced for this common injury in horses.

This online course is available to all healthcare professionals. It is brought to you by the Animal Rehabilitation Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA).

This course was recorded at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress in May 2022. 

 

Learning Objectives

In this online course, participants will:

  1. Understand the anatomical structures of the achilles tendon in humans and superficial digital flexor tendon in horses.

  2. Learn the basics of equine assessment and outcome measures.

  3. Compare and contrast the rehab protocol for Achilles tendon injuries in humans and superficial digital flexor tendon injuries in horses.

  4. Learn progressions of home exercise treatment for superficial digital flexor tendon injuries in horses.

Presenter Bio: Linda Walker, Equine Physio, Clinical Instructor


Linda Walker, MPT, Kin, RCAMPT, is a highly skilled physiotherapist and clinic owner with over 20 years of experience in Greater Victoria. She specialises in chronic pain management, biomechanics, sports injury, and is continuing her education on animal rehab. She has been an equestrian for 10 years and completed her equine rehab diploma through the Animal Rehab Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association

With a Masters of Physical Therapy from McMaster University, she is deeply involved in her community, serving as a Pain Champion with Pain BC and as a Clinical Educator for the UBC Island Medical Program and Physiotherapy Program
